After three years of robust double-digit growth, the 2020 cybersecurity solutions market experienced trends related to the COVID-19 pandemic, but despite initial pessimistic announcements and vendor concerns, both the overall ICT market and the cybersec industry emerged from the pandemic with a defensive hand.
The latest PMR report “Cybersecurity market in Poland 2021. Market analysis and development forecasts for 2022-2026” shows that the years 2021-2022 are marked by a return to the double-digit dynamics of spending on cybersecurity in Poland. Next year, the value of the year will clearly exceed PLN 2bn.

In general, the pandemic is undoubtedly a topic that has dominated the economic situation throughout the country, having its impact on the ICT market, as well as its individual segments, including the cybersecurity market. As it turned out, the forced digital transformation of companies, and in fact its elements – with the mass transition of companies to remote work at the forefront – rewarded cloud providers, data centers, telecommunications operators and connection providers, including VPN services. It has become a matter of paramount importance to secure dispersed corporate resources, often used in a hybrid model and with the possibility of remote access. The year 2021 generally saw a rebound in the market. Moreover, in some areas there have been unprecedented increases, and in some places customer demand has been limited only by shortages on the supply side and disrupted supply chains.

Large companies remain the main recipient of IT in Poland, and their share in the total value of the cybersecurity market in 2021 was 58%. When it comes to the expenses of individual industries, the leaders of the B2B segment are, as every year, banks and financial institutions as well as the telecommunications sector, where investments in cybersecurity are imposed by the nature of the business. In the case of telecommunications operators, modernizations and investments in new IT systems, as well as the integration of existing resources have had a positive impact on the revenues of suppliers of cybersecurity solutions from servicing this sector. In addition, in 2021, the expenditure of intensively developing VOD and multimedia content providers in Poland was visible.
More and more companies are thinking about the use of both cloud solutions and remote work in the long run, without anymore raising the issue of cybersecurity being an element blocking such changes. In the perspective of the growing adoption of the cloud, however, companies will use more IaaS solutions from the largest public cloud providers, which may reduce their budgets for traditional cybersec solutions, while rewarding their sale to data centers and the largest hyperscallers. The growing popularity of cloud-based application security solutions and application sharing as a service are expected to make them more accessible to more organizations.
When it comes to threats, the Polish market only slightly differs from the global trends in this respect. First of all, because Polish companies do not operate in a vacuum, and especially large entities are most often associated with companies outside Poland.
In the coming years, applications, services and platforms will require close protection, and organizations will have to face the increasing risk of external attacks closely related to the growing popularity of cloud environments and remote work and access to resources.
